NEWS & EVENTS

Thursday 7/21, 6pm-8pm at Lions Football Field:  This will be the LAST CHANCE to register for Football or Cheer.  This is also the last football equipment handout prior to the start of conditioning week. 
If you haven’t already, please make sure that you bring any missing paperwork.  Please bring a copy of your child/children’s most recent report card.  This is required in order for your child/children to participate.

Monday 7/25 and Wednesday 7/27, 5:30pm-8pm at WBHS: The West Boylston Varsity Cheerleaders will be offering a cheer clinic in the WBHS gym.  Cost is $25 for one day, or $40 for both days.  Please register by July 20th by emailing amysmith@wbschools.com.  These clinics will cover:  stunting, pyramids, tumbling, dance, cheer, jumps, motions and bow decorating (each participant will receive a bow to take home)    
Monday 8/1, 6pm at Lions Football Field:  Begins conditioning week.  For the week of 8/1, players are required to wear their shoulder pads and helmets. The remainder of their conditioning week uniform should be athletic shorts and cleats.
Cheerleaders should be in shorts (no pockets), t-shirt or tank, hair up and away from face and sneakers.
Also, please make sure that you stop by the documentation table located at the snack shack to confirm that all of your child/children’s paperwork has been submitted and signed.
Week of 8/1:  Stay tuned for additional information re: a Parent’s Meeting one night during conditioning.

As we prepare for the upcoming 2016 football season, we wanted to bring everyone up to speed on some important changes that we’re making this season.  We have decided, after careful consideration, to transition out of Central Mass Pop Warner and join Central Mass American Youth Football & Cheer Conference.

There were several factors that we took into consideration when making this decision, but most importantly, what is best for our players/cheerleaders, their families and our program as a whole.

So what does this mean to us?

  • The BWBB Lions become part of the largest youth football organization in the US.
  • We join a league that’s more localized to our communities.
  • We’re able to offer cheer and football to more kids – there’s no longer a too big or too small.

Historically we have needed to move kids either up or down divisions so that we could make rosters or manipulate sizes so that we could accommodate the most kids possible.  Our philosophy will not change here, however the configurations of our teams will differ.

AYF works from a grade-based leveling system.  This means that we can field a team(s) at either a single grade, or combine no more than 2 grades into a roster.  Knowing what we do about our program and our kids, we anticipate 3-4 football teams this season.  This all depends on registration numbers, but early indicators are looking like:

  • 8th/7th grades combined team
  • 6th/5th grades combined team
  • 4th/3rd grades combined team
  • K-2 introduction/instructional team

We’re also excited about the opportunities this presents for our cheer program.  We anticipate being able to offer 2-3 cheer teams, but this is heavily dependent on registration numbers.  We look forward to continuing to grow our cheer program into as many teams at as many levels as possible!
