The lessons and values instilled through youth football and cheer will last a lifetime – lessons like hard work, discipline, commitment, and teamwork. These are the vital character traits we aim to teach the players and cheerleaders that come through our program.

Lions Youth Football and Cheer is a member of the Central Mass Youth Football and Cheer Conference, and as such can field teams for either a single grade or combination of grades in a roster. Teams are be formed according to the number of players and cheerleaders that sign up from each grade.

Football

Lions Football is open to children in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. Our teams play tackle football; however, Flex Football can be offered in the occasion that we have enough Kindergarteners and 1st graders to field a team.

In 2024, practices will begin at the end of July. Until school starts, practices are Monday – Thursday, 6:00 – 8:30 PM. Once school begins, practices will be scaled back to 2 or 3 days per week. All football practices will be held at the our home field in Boylston. For the first week of practice, football players need to wear shoulder pads, helmet, shorts, and cleats.

Conditioning Week: Safety is our number one priority, and to ensure player safety, AYF requires all tackle football players to have a minimum of 10 hours of conditioning without pads prior to the start of padded practice.  Players who miss practice during the initial 10 practice hours MUST complete their mandatory 10 hours prior to wearing pads with the team.

Equipment: Football players are provided with a practice jersey, game jersey, pants, pads, helmet, and socks, but must provide their own mouth guard, cleats, and athletic supporter (“cup”).

Games: Teams will typically play one game per week, usually on either Saturday or Sunday (determined by the season schedule).  We are a member of the Central Mass AYF conference, meaning that games played prior to playoffs will usually be held within and against other Central Massachusetts teams.
